The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA), in collaboration with the Queensland Department of Environment and Science (DES), has developed a new Integrated Waste Tracking Solution for tracking and reporting on hazardous and regulated waste.
The Integrated Waste Tracking Solution (IWTS) is a digital tool that enables waste operators to track and report on hazardous and regulated waste. It is a key step towards delivering the National Waste Policy Action Plan and NSW Waste and Sustainable Materials Strategy 2041 commitment to develop a nationally consistent hazardous waste tracking and data system.
KPMG has designed, developed and operates the IWTS using the KPMG Origins traceability platform. The solution is designed to make it easier for industry to meet their regulatory requirements, while supporting a more data-driven and risk-based approach to regulating hazardous wastes.
In NSW, the IWTS replaces the existing tracking systems for hazardous and regulated waste. This includes the:
Online Waste Tracking (OWT) system for tracking:
movements of hazardous waste, including liquid waste, listed under Schedule 1 of the Protection of the Environment Operations (Waste) Regulation 2014
interstate waste tyres and asbestos movements
movement of waste generated in the NSW Metropolitan Levy Area
WasteLocate system for tracking movements of waste tyres and asbestos within NSW.

In Queensland, the IWTS is proposed to replace the existing Trackable Waste service in Queensland Department of Environment and Science’s (DES) Online Services, including support for bulk uploads.
